Smart Home and loT: tomorrow is here already. #BeMove

Technology has always accompanied human beings through their evolutionary phases, but how have we changed the way we interact with it?

In the past, people adapted to existing technologies. To use them, it was necessary to learn and change one’s habits depending on what the available technology allowed them to do. However, in recent times, we are seeing a profound change in this way of doing things. Interaction has become the main link between us and our technological devices, and they are now able to explain to us what we can do, or they can even do it for us once they learn our habits. A very common example of this is the management of our homes and their functions: Smart Home.

What makes a normal object SMART?

If we give an object that we use every day intelligence (for example, a vocal function on our phone) and then we equip it with connectivity, then we make it SMART, and its real added value is demonstrated in the amount of data that we now can collect. Monitoring the operation of an appliance, the energy consumption habits inside a room or keeping watch over the home from a remote position are just a few examples of the types of data we can collection, examples of IoT.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is the fourth evolutionary phase of the “Internet” phenomenon, and it is visible in the example above. The Internet of Things is intelligence applied to everyday objects that dialogue with us and amongst themselves. This reality seemed to be very futuristic just a few years ago, but now we are approaching this type of lifestyle very quickly.

This is the time defined as “machine to machine”, where technology adapts surprisingly to our way of life and becomes an ally, a helper that does things for us and can be highly customised, thanks to is capacity for monitoring and control.

And what about people?

Thanks to these new technologies, new opportunities will emerge to make our lives simpler, more optimised and monitored.
