How to calculate the correct dimensions
of a cantilever gate

Is it possible to use any sliding motors or what kind of precautions should be taken into account with the LM series?

The carriage of the LM series can be connected directly to all series of Benincà motors, from BULL10M to BISON45OTI. With regard to other motors, you just have to inform us about the brand used for the motor and we will provide the specific adapter for that brand and carriage. If there are no problems with the height, it is enough to know the model concerned to provide the correct accessories.

Does the total length provided as a result by the configurator depend on the ground on which the gate should be installed?

No, the total length of the gate does not depend on the ground. The only thing that depends on the ground is the design of the foundation. For instance, in a sandy ground the foundation should be deeper instead of being distributed more horizontally as it should be for a rocky or concrete ground.

Why is the series XXL namely the Tank not indicated in the configurator?

The reason is that it is the biggest model and its use could turn out to be dangerous. It is possible to use this series, but we would like to consider other factors such as the wind, the ground, the area etc…in order to give a correct answer about the weight and the length. This is why the Tank and the XXL series are not shown among the results of the configurator. The same thing can be applied to other series like M, XM or XL with 9 wheels that still have to be updated in the configurator.

Are there any projects regarding cantilever telescopic gates?

They are underway, we have already got our telescopic system with track on the ground, but it all depends on our engineers. They are developing a bracket that can support a second carriage. The system will be almost identical, apart from the bracket and the carriages that have to support the second leaf.

How can two tracks be welded together?

As far as the welding of two parts of the track is concerned, if you have a look at the videos on Youtube, you will see that it is necessary to cut away the two pieces at the extremities of each track and smooth them in 45° angles. In this way the welding will be more effective.

Why should you choose a carriage with 5 or 9 wheels instead of 8 wheels?

Carriages with 5 or 9 wheels have a greater stability on the horizontal sliding axis of the gate, this allows keeping a better sliding path and an overall greater stability even in windy areas or after small impacts. The disadvantage is that the total length of the gate is slightly increased with 9 wheel carriages, whereas 5 wheel carriages are characterised by a lower loading capacity than 8 wheel models.

Have you got any certificates that guarantee the results of the configurator?

Yes, we have carried out the FEM analysis on the materials of the carriages and the tracks, which have highlighted the maximum tolerable load and the breaking load. The results shown in the configurator are reliable and real, we always work with safety margins as well.

When is it recommended to use the locking screw in carriages with 5 wheels?

We recommend it if you want to reduce to a minimum the clearance between the track and the carriage in order to make the entire system more dynamic. However, this will reduce the load capacity of the system itself.

What is the application of the roller of the 230 series?

The roller of the 230 series is used in installations in which the gate has not got a perfect rectangular shape, but it is characterised by a curve on the upper part that prevents the linear sliding of the roller of the 220 series, as the sliding range is wider. It is also used in installations in which spears protrude from the upper part of the gate, therefore a roller of the 220 series cannot be placed, as due to its length, it cannot reach the frame of the gate on which a roller of the 230 series can be installed instead.

Is it possible to turn a sliding gate with track on the ground into a cantilever system?

Yes, it is possible, but you have to modify the frame by adding a piece in order to extend it or by reducing the opening so that the total length of the gate shown in our online configurator is equal or inferior to the gate already at disposal.

Does the height of the gate affect the results of the online configurator?

No, the height is an independent factor and does not affect the results of the configurator. The height is a useful element to calculate the weight of the gate with regard to the opening, so it is a process that is carried out before entering the data in the configurator.

What are the risks if the distance C provided by the configurator is not respected and is made shorter or longer?

Not complying with the minimum data provided by the configurator is first of all dangerous for people and/or animals passing in the area of the gate, then the system may not work properly due to the strain, not work at all or get damaged shortly after. The data we provide are calculated and certified through the FEM analysis that has been carried out on the materials of the different components, so we suggest following them as much as possible. If the distance C were higher than the one indicated, there would be risk, on the contrary, the lifespan of the gate and the system itself would increase, as they would not be under stain, they would require less maintenance over time as well.

Is it true that even though the initial expenditure might be higher, in the end the cantilever gates allows saving up compared to a classic sliding gate? How so?

The cantilever system allows saving up over time with regard to the maintenance and/or security. Since there is no track on the ground, there are no problems of crushing, derailment of the gate and warping of the track itself, as the whole gate is “suspended” until the limit stop. Maintenance is also lower due to the fact that the possibility of dirt accumulating in the passage of the gate is reduced to the minimum. The carriages are protected, as they are enclosed in the track, consequently they are less subject to bad weather and/or other damages. The only maintenance required over time is to lubricate the carriages or the surrounding area and check the adjustment of the carriages that could change due to thermal expansion of the materials or loosening of the screws, since the carriages are the core for the good operation of the system.
