ACT – Automatic Closing Time defines the waiting time before the automation automatically starts the closing maneuver.
Setting it up is simple, but how do you choose the most suitable duration? There is no one-size-fits-all value for every automation system: the ACT must be evaluated by taking into account the characteristics of the entrance and its actual operating conditions.
Every entrance has different needs
A residential gate used by just a few vehicles has completely different requirements compared to the entrance of an apartment block or a commercial property, where multiple consecutive passings can occur.
Before adjusting the ACT, it is therefore helpful to consider:
- The frequency and type of traffic;
- The time required to cross the passage;
- The likelihood of consecutive vehicles or pedestrians passing through;
- The position and configuration of the photocells;
- The other operational logics set on the control unit.
An excessively short time may not match how the entrance is used, while an overly long time might leave it open longer than necessary.
ACT and photocells
The automation’s behavior does not depend solely on the number of set seconds.
The triggering of photocells and their configuration can also influence the operating sequence. For this reason, the ACT should not be viewed as an isolated parameter, but rather alongside the control unit’s other settings and the overall configuration of the automation.
Furthermore, it is important to remember that the ACT is an operational logic and does not replace the safety devices and functions installed to protect the system.
